Life Coaching FAQs

What exactly is life coaching?
Life coaching empowers you to take responsibility for your life. The Life Coach will encourage you to make positive changes. The life coaching relationship is unique in that both of us - you as the client and me as the coach - have come together exclusively to promote your agenda.
What sort of issues would we work on?
People hire a Life Coach for many different reasons but some of my own clients' 'starting points' have included wanting...
- to create a new life after experiencing loss - death, divorce, redundancy or children leaving home.
- to improve the balance between, for example, career, health, friends and family, romance/significant other, personal growth, and fun and recreation.
- to improve their relationships with family and friends.
- to create an emotional shift, improve well-being, health and energy.
How is life coaching different from counselling?
As a generalisation, counselling tends to look at the past to help you understand the forces that shaped you while coaching tends to look to the future and helps you identify and achieve your aspirations.
How do I choose the right Life Coach for me?
Personal recommendation is probably the best and most reliable way but even better is first hand experience of a particular coach. This is why I offer a free "chemistry" session to see if we can build a safe and productive coaching relationship based on trust.
How do you coach your clients?
As your coach, the most important part is for me to create a safe space where you know you are fully accepted and heard.
I will ask you questions that you might never have been asked before. I will challenge your assumptions and beliefs, and offer suggestions where I think this will make a positive contribution. Above all, I will listen to you in a way you have never been listened to before.
How do we work together?
I coach face-to-face in Surrey and London or, where geographical distance makes this impractical, I coach on the phone.
How many sessions would I need?
This varies significantly from person to person. I usually recommend a minimum of 6 one-hour sessions because it generally takes time to shed habits and beliefs that no longer serve you. My aim is for the client to become independent of me as soon as possible.
